Receives 2005 Gloria Brown Award


    At the annual meeting of the Episcopal Network for Economic Justice, the 2005 Gloria Brown Award was to the Good Samaritan Center in San Antonio, Texas. This 53 year old agency of the Diocese of West Texas has a variety of programs for youth and adults with the award focusing on the Get 2 Work job and educational program for more than 1000 at risk youth between the ages of 14-18 years of age.  Jill Oettinger is the Executive Director of the organization.  In her absence, Michael Bryant accepted the award for the organization.

Each year, the Episcopal network for Economic Justice presents the Gloria Brown Award at its annual breakfast to an outstanding faith-based economic justice project.  The other nominees were Grace Christian Child Center of Holland, Michigan (Kathi Austin-Bowman, Director) and All Saints Community Service and Development Corporation (Laurie Wurm, Executive Director).

Gloria Brown Award Application Process

Each year at its annual meeting, the Episcopal Network for Economic Justice presents an award to an outstanding faith-based economic justice project.  To nominate a project for the award, send a 1-2 page description of the project to the Gloria Brown Award Committee at the address below.  Nominations must be received by January 31, 2006.

Last year’s award was given to the Good Samaritan Center of San Antonio, Texas.  The award was received by Michael Bryant, Executive Directory of Fresh Ministries of Jacksonville, Florida, on behalf of Executive Director, Jill Oettinger.

Eligibility Criteria:  The organization nominated must be engaged in community economic development or worker justice advocacy and must have a relationship to the Episcopal Church.

§         Date of incorporation

§         Brief history of the organization

§         Brief description of current programs

§         Proposed use of the $1,500 award.

Hugh White Award

 The Hugh White Award is given to an individual who has done outstanding work in the area of worker justice.  Please submit the name of an individual along with a brief summary of his or her contributions in the area to the addresses below.
